The crash happened at about 7 a.m., when a black Honda Civic collided with a man riding a motorcycle who was driving on southbound Interstate 5, between the La Costa and Leucadia exits.
The motorcycle flew up into the air, and later, the rider was seen sitting on the right side of the road, an officer said. Two other vehicles were damaged in the crash, a Toyota Tacoma truck and blue minivan.
Highway Patrol did not release details about any of the drivers, nor the extent of the injuries they sustained in the crash.
