San Diego's Royal Wedding parties

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - On Friday the Royal Wedding will capture the attention of the world. At 3 a.m. local time, most San Diegans will either be sleeping or watching the ceremony in their pajamas, but there are plenty of parties to attend, including an all-nighter in La Mesa.

For almost 30 years, All Things Bright and British has been selling fine China, teas and chocolates to its customers, and now on the corner of La Mesa Boulevard and 4th, the store is going to host a big thank you for its customers by offering a free viewing party starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

Sold out of William and Kate collectible cups, Bill Jaynes' British business is booming.

"This is like getting an extra day of Christmas at springtime," he said.

As a thank you to his loyal royals who load up on bangers, biscuits and tea, Jaynes is throwing a free viewing party all night long for those who can't get enough.

"It's the wedding of the century," he said. "I think it's a fabulous day for England."

But for those who plan on sleeping during the ceremony, the party starts at 6 a.m. at the Shakespeare Pub and Grille on the corner of Winder and India Street.

"It's crazy, way busier than we anticipated it was going to be," general manager Ruth Thomas said.

For $19.95, her viewing party includes big screen TVs, eggs Benedict with English bacon and complimentary champagne.

"We thought maybe we'd be about 40 or 45 people, and I think at this point we are 130 and people are still trying to make reservations," Ruth said.

If their sunrise soiree is too early for you, Little Italy is getting in on the big day too. The Princess Grille and Pub is hosting a viewing party that starts at 11 a.m.

Gerry Kenny, the owner of the pub, says William and Kate's wedding will be filled with the spirit of Princess Di. The bar that used to be called The Princess of Wales is offering a special menu and loading up on good beer.

"It seems like a lot of Americans are in love with this royal couple," Gerry said.
