After a short decrease, San Diego county gas prices reach highest in three years

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose nine-tenths of a cent Friday to $4.224, the highest since July 30, 2008, one day after decreasing one-tenth of a cent.

The 25th increase in 29 days and 33rd in the past 38 pushed the average price 2.2 cents higher than a week ago, 18.7 cents above what it was one month ago and $1.10 greater than it was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 40.6 cents less than the record high of $4.63 set on June 19, 2008.

"Wholesale gasoline and crude oil continue to trade at high levels and so far we haven't seen a precipitous drop in those prices, which help determine how much consumers pay at the pump," Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California said.
