SDPD to set up DUI checkpoint Friday night

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Police Department Traffic Unit Friday will erect a checkpoint to catch suspected drunken drivers.

The checkpoint will be set up at an undisclosed location between 10 p.m. Friday night and 4 a.m. Saturday to screen drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment, an officer said.

If officers suspect a driver has been drinking, a field-sobriety test will be conducted, police said. Those who fail can expect jail, fines and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
