LA MESA (CNS) - One man was shot and mortally wounded behind a La Mesa restaurant Saturday, a crime in a deserted parking lot that police detectives said left them with few clues.

Officers were called to the Kaiser Hospital in San Diego at around 2:20 a.m., when a shooting victim appeared in the emergency room. The 19-year-old victim, whose name was withheld, had been shot near the 6900 block of Alvarado Road, police said.

Officers from the La Mesa and San Diego police departments searched the area and found shell casings in the rear parking lot of the Marie Callendar's restaurant, which was closed at the time, police said.

Officers were investigating the shooting and said its circumstances were still unknown to them.

Police urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400, or to call Crime Stoppers' anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477, and are offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
