Suspected thieves hit gas station for second time, taking ATM

SORRENTO VALLEY (CNS) - Persistent thieves used a van to yank the ATM out of a Sorrento Valley gas station Saturday, police said.

Officers responded to an alarm around 1 a.m., at a Chevron station in the 8200 block of Camino Santa Fe, according to David Stafford of the San Diego Police Department.

Officers found the glass on the front door had been smashed out and the ATM was missing from inside the business.

Surveillance video shows the thieves tied the ATM to the bumper of a van, which was used to yank the machine from the floor it was bolted to, said Roland Donato, a cashier at the station.

The cashier said he believes the ATM was taken by the same suspects who stole cigarettes from the store last Friday.

The thieves tried to take the ATM at that time but were thwarted by the bolts to the floor, Donato said.

He believes the thieves came back with the sole purpose of the stealing the ATM. Police did not release information about the suspects, but did say they were seen leaving the scene in a yellow Ford van.
