SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of robbing a bank and trying in vain to rob another.

Jonathan Hall, 51, was arrested at 3:55 p.m. as he came out of the Peach Tree Inn in the 900 block of F Street, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford.

Hall allegedly walked into the Chase bank in the 3800 block of 5th Avenue in Hillcrest at 3:34 p.m. and demanded money from a teller, Stafford said. The teller did not comply and the would-be robber left empty-handed.

The Wells Fargo bank in the 600 block of 1st Avenue reported a robbery a short time later when a Hall allegedly handed a teller a demand note left with an undisclosed amount of cash, Stafford said. The suspect did not appear to have a weapon in either incident.

A short time later, Hall entered the Peach Tree Inn attempting to contact someone who was staying there, said Paul Hernandez, a hotel employee.

The suspect waved money at people entering the hotel and tried to get them to let him into the building, but to no avail, Hernandez said. Police officers arrived a short time later and arrested him.
