Neighbors jump into action when brush fire hits Santee neighborhood

SANTEE (CBS 8/CNS) – Residents in a Santee neighborhood took action Tuesday after a brush fire broke out and threatened several homes, sending large plumes of smoke into the sky.

The flames, which broke out around 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 10000 block of Carlton Hills Boulevard. Residents assisted fire crews in battling the flames, which were close to several homes.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire was contained but not fully extinguished. The blaze has destroyed at least 10 acres.

The blaze caused no reported structural damage, but sent one resident to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
