SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Chargers linebacker Antwan Applewhite was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Pacific Beach early Friday, authorities reported.
A San Diego police officer working a DUI patrol pulled over Applewhite, 26, shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Grand Avenue, near Gresham Street, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.
The athlete was booked into county jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He posted $2,500 bail later in the day and was released on his own recognizance, Brown said.
Applewhite, a Los Angeles native and former San Diego State University student, signed with the Chargers in 2008.
The team issued a two-sentence statement calling his arrest "disappointing."
"We'll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course," the statement says.
