SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The San Diego Unified Board of Education will meet tonight to discuss teacher layoffs.

The district has notified more than 1,000 employees that their jobs could be eliminated because of budget cuts.

There have been some layoff appeals hearings before an administrative law judge.

The teachers union claims the district has an extra $66 million dollars in its reserve account, that could save more than 800 jobs.

The superintendent says that money has already been accounted for.
