FONTANA, Calif. (AP) - Police say an armed, elderly woman is prowling Southern California parking lots to steal purses in stickups outside department stores.
Fontana police tell the Riverside Press-Enterprise the bandit is believed to be up to 80 years old and has now robbed or tried to rob women outside three stores in the city in recent days.
The latest victim was a woman loading purchases into her car in a WalMart parking lot on Tuesday.
Investigators say the robber, shrouded in a black scarf, pointed a gun and demanded the woman's purse. She refused and the armed woman drove away.
On Monday, a woman in a Target store parking lot was robbed of her purse.
The bandit got away with another purse during a Sunday robbery outside a Kohl's store.
