SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club's 56th annual "Coming Out Party" will be held Saturday, a traditional beach bash that includes the Miss Mission Bay pageant.
The event began when a group of buddies welcomed home a Korean War prisoner of war, Delmar Miller, with an old whiskey decanter full of hundreds of dollars of change they'd been saving -- and Miller suggested using the money to throw a party, according to OMBAC.
It has since grown into what they call the world's largest beach party, with food, beer, bands and dancing. Attendees need to be at least 21 years old.
