Missing La Mesa woman found safe in Ramona

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The 63-year-old La Mesa woman who was last seen Friday afternoon after parking her tan Ford Ranger on Mountainbrook Road was found Saturday.

Landscaper, Stanley Escallier bumped into Patricia McGinn and says she started peppering him with questions and seemed deeply troubled.

When he turned to call authorities he says McGinn took off on foot, which prompted an extensive square mile search with the Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue team, Canine and Horse Units, and areal assistance.

It was a resident along Meadowbrook Road who discovered McGinn in a canyon, behind a shed crying out for help.

"All she can tell the search and rescue volunteers is that she went down to a canyon to get water and she spent the night under a house."

Investigators say they haven't been able to confirm if McGinn is suffering from any medical condition, but add doctors will be running tests and monitoring her closely at a nearby hospital.

Search and rescue team officials believe McGinn has a friend in the area and say this is the second time in as many weeks that she has become lost here.

The first time, however, a good samaritan found her wandering the streets and took her to the sheriff's department.

WYNOLA (CNS) - Seventy-eight people from several area agencies searched for a missing woman over a square-mile area of rugged North County hills near Wynola Saturday.

Sheriff's deputies and search-and-rescue volunteers, along with personnel from the California Highway Patrol, American Red Cross, U.S. Forest Service and San Diego Mountain Rescue, aided in the search Patricia McGinn, 63, said sheriff's spokeswoman Melissa Aquino.

McGinn parked her pickup truck in the 4800 block of Mountainbrook Road in Wynola about 11:30 a.m. Friday and walked away, Aquino said. It was unclear why she wandered away from her vehicle, which was abandoned about 5 miles northwest of Ramona.

McGinn was described as white, 5-foot-8 and roughly 135 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing dark-blue pants and a light-blue shirt.

Witnesses described McGinn as seeming disoriented when she walked away from her vehicle, said Aquino.

Search-and-rescue deployed two rescuers dogs and two horses to help search, Aquinas said. The sheriff's department also sent a helicopter.

A search-and-rescue training exercise at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve was canceled, and volunteers shifted to the hills northwest of Ramona at 7 a.m., Aquinas said. The command post was set up at Dudley's Bakery, in the 30200 block of Highway 78, Aquinas said.

Deputies asked anyone who spots a woman matching McGinn's description to call sheriff's dispatchers at (858) 565-5200.
