ESCONDIDO (CNS/CBS8) - A woman reported being robbed and raped inside an Escondido business late Wednesday afternoon by an assailant who then commandeered and stole a sport utility vehicle.

The woman reported being held up and sexually assaulted occurred at the Family Accessories store at 1690 East Valley Parkway about 5 p.m., Escondido Police Department Sgt. Don Shumate said.

Afterward, the assailant fled the business, taking the victim's keys to a 2000 Ford Expedition, according to police.

The suspect who was described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, was later seen at a nearby check cashing store shortly before 9:30p.m. attempting to rob it, according to investigators.

Those workers called police and provided a description of the SUV similar to the one taken at the earlier crime scene.

After chasing him for several blocks the SUV was pulled over in the 1000 block of E. Valley Parkway and the suspect was taken into custody.

Investigators confirm, after witness identification, the man taken into custody is the person responsible for the earlier alleged armed robbery, sexual assault, and vehicle theft.
