SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The unemployment rate in San Diego County was 9.8 percent in April, down from the 10.2 percent in March and lower than the 10.3 percent recorded in the same period in 2010, the state Employment Development Department reported Friday.
The numbers are not seasonally adjusted.
California's jobless rate was 11.7 percent in April, down from 12.3 percent in March and 12.2 percent rate from April of last year, according to the EDD. The rate in the United States was 8.7 percent, down from 9.2 percent in March.
Total nonfarm employment of more than 1.2 million increased by 2,400 jobs in San Diego County between March and April, led by new hires in the leisure and hospitality industry.
The EDD reported that 1,000 jobs in professional and technical services were lost.
Another 100 positions were dropped in the construction trades, a hard-hit industry that has lost about 1,700 jobs in the past year, according to EDD data.
A total of 151,500 people were unemployed in March in San Diego County, which has a labor force of almost 1.6 million.
Five people were injured in a three-car crash in the Rolando area on Sunday after an apparent road-rage incident. It happened about 1:30 p.m. on University Avenue at College Avenue, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
