Supporting legal racing with words and music

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Race Legal used to hold their events every weekend at Qualcomm Stadium, but budget issues have forced them to be here only twice a month.

One mom, who lost her 17-year-old daughter, Rebeca, to a street racing crash nearly a decade ago in Sorrento Valley, says it's not enough to stop the deadly activity.

Peggy Martinez doesn't want Race Legal events to stop.  She says the operation is the only way to prevent serious injuries and deaths from happening on San Diego streets.

And while Peggy Martinez is hoping there are no more injuries and deaths from illegal racing, her biggest wish is for race legal to get a sponsorship from Nascar legend Jimmie Johnson, who is from El Cajon.

Race Legal's next event will be held Friday, June 10th at Qualcomm Stadium.

They will also have another concert to help drum up community support and potential sponsors for the group.
