EL CAJON (CNS) - Opening statements were scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of a man accused of stabbing two men -- one fatally -- during a fight at a party in Lakeside.

Jacob Hume, 24, is charged with murder in the death of 29-year-old David Fleming Jr. The defendant is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence for allegedly hitting a woman with a bottle of rum.

Sheriff's deputies were sent to Riverview Avenue and Walter Hill Road about 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 3. 2009, and found Fleming critically wounded, according to sheriff's officials.

Witnesses identified the assailant as Hume, who was attending the party when a fight erupted in the street, authorities said.

Hume fled before deputies arrived, but was arrested hours later at the home of a relative.
