SANTEE (CNS) - A 28-year-old man who allegedly made a failed attempt to snatch a woman's purse at an East County shopping center Tuesday was arrested a short time later.
Sean Michael Breese of La Mesa allegedly grabbed the victim's handbag as she was standing in front of a Panda Express restaurant at Santee Town Center shortly after 10:30 a.m., but was unable to wrest it away from the woman, sheriff's Sgt. Tom Poulin said.
During an ensuing "violent struggle," the victim screamed, prompting the would-be thief to give up and flee empty-handed, according to Poulin.
A short time later, a deputy took the suspect into custody at the nearby intersection of Cuyamaca Street and Riverwalk Drive.
Breese was booked into county jail on suspicion of attempted robbery. He was being held on $100,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
