SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A disgruntled partygoer who shot and killed a woman and wounded another guest hours after getting into a fight at an Encanto birthday celebration was sentenced Friday to 85 years to life in state prison.

Christopher A. Sanchez, 21, was convicted in March of first-degree murder, attempted murder and firing into an occupied vehicle,

Sanchez, of Lemon Grove, fired into a crowd outside a home in the 6800 block of Brooklyn Avenue, killing 21-year-old Marcella Peraza of San Diego, who died at a hospital. He also wounded a 26-year-old man.

According to police, Sanchez left the party after getting into a fight the night of March 6, 2009, and returned around 2:30 the next morning and began shooting.

The defendant was not a documented gang member, but there are photos of him with people who are in gangs, Deputy District Attorney Christine Israel.

Sanchez fled to Mexico, but was taken into custody in late June 2009 as he walked through a Tijuana neighborhood, where he had apparently been living.
