Brush fire causes evacuations in Mountain View

SAN DIEGO (CNS/CBS 8) - A brush fire broke out Monday causing some residents of a Mountain View apartment complex to be evacuated but no injuries were reported.

The blaze ignited shortly after 2:30 p.m., in the 1400 block of 45th Street near Mayberry Street, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Several residents from a three-story apartment complex were evacuated because of fears the fire would reach the building, a SDFRD dispatcher said.

Firefighters from several area agencies responded and used a helicopter to extinguish the flames. Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze in about an hour, a SDFRD dispatcher said.

No injuries were reported and an estimate of the damage was not immediately available.

Some residents were reportedly unable to return to their homes due to water damage from sprinklers that went off during the fire.

According to investigators, the fire may have been started by children playing with matches.
