Police chase ends with arrest in Mira Mesa

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A speeding motorist led California Highway Patrol officers on a chase through the North County on Interstate 15 Wednesday, weaving in and out of traffic and at one point driving the wrong way on the freeway before finally getting cornered and arrested.

The southbound chase began in the late afternoon near the San Diego-Riverside county line, according to the CHP.

After reaching the northern limits of the city of San Diego, the fleeing man exited at Mira Mesa Boulevard. Moments later, a CHP officer appeared to have boxed the suspect in, but the man was able to maneuver onto a nearby freeway off-ramp, where he drove the wrong way back onto Interstate 15, this time heading north in the southbound lanes.

The suspect veered around oncoming vehicles, apparently managing to avoid hitting any of them before exiting the freeway at the nearest southbound on-ramp.

The man then drove into a residential area off Carroll Canyon Road, where officers were able to capture him a short time later. His name was not immediately available.

The silver sedan the suspect was driving had been reported stolen.
