EL CAJON (CBS 8) - A helmet saved the life of a 10-year-old boy who was hit by an SUV while riding his bike to school Thursday morning in El Cajon.

The boy was struck by an SUV around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Main Street and Madison Avenue. After the impact, he was pinned under the vehicle.

Fire crews used airbags to help lift the SUV and free the boy. The child was taken to Rady Children's Hospital with only minor injuries.

EL CAJON (CBS 8) - A 10-year-old boy was struck just before 8 a.m. Friday by an SUV on eastbound East Main Street at Madison Avenue in El Cajon.

The boy, who was riding his bike at the time of the accident, was trapped under the SUV for about five minutes, but was conscious. El Cajon fire crews and paramedics freed the boy, according to a Chopper 8 live report. The boy has been transported to a local hospital. There is no word on his condition at this time.

Streets in the area of East Main Street at Madison Avenue are blocked off. Authorities are advising drivers to take an alternate route.
