ATM stolen in 'smash and grab' from Chula Vista liquor store

Posted: Updated:

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A large "box" work truck was driven through the wall of a Chula Vista liquor store early Friday, and three men got out of the vehicle and stole an automatic teller machine, police said.

The "smash and grab" robbery at Xpress Food & Liquor at 640 E St. occurred just after 4 a.m., according to Chula Vista police, who said the assailants were in and out of the business in less than a minute.

They fled with the ATM in the work truck, police said.

Friday's robbery may be related to a similar "smash and grab" robbery reported in Chula Vista two weeks ago.

About 2:50 a.m. on May 20, unknown assailants drove a vehicle through the front glass wall of 1% Checks Cashed/Payday Loans at 1337 Third Ave., and took that business' ATM, police said.
