2-year-old drowns after falling into Ramona pond

RAMONA (CNS) - A 2-year-old girl drowned after falling into a backyard pond in Ramona on Saturday afternoon, according to deputies.

Sheriff's deputies and CAL Fire officials were called to the 1800 block of Cedar Street in Ramona at about 3:30 Saturday afternoon, following an hysterical 911 call concerning a missing two-year-old girl.

First responders located the girl at the bottom of a seven-foot-deep pond on the property. According to deputies, she was not breathing and unresponsive. The victim was rushed by ambulance to the Ramona Airport, then flown to Rady Children's Hospital, where she was pronounce dead.

Homicide detectives were on the scene late Saturday evening to investigate what deputies are calling a tragic accident.

RAMONA (CNS) - A 2-year-old child was airlifted to a San Diego hospital Saturday after falling into a pond in Ramona, authorities said.

The toddler's older sister called 911 around 3:30 p.m. when she could not locate the child, said Capt. Mike Mohler of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Firefighters and sheriff's deputies rushed to the 1800 block Cedar Street and pulled the child out of a pond behind a residence, Mohler said, adding that the victim was then airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital San Diego.

The child's condition was not immediately reported.
