Vigil held for teen who died at middle school dance

Posted: Updated:

SAN MARCOS (CBS 8) - In San Marcos Friday night, the Woodland Park Middle School community mourned the shocking death of an eighth grader after she collapsed at a school dance.

Hundreds joined Sabrina Keller's family for an emotional candlelight vigil.

"She was happy. She loved life and she always thought of other people before she thought of herself," Sabrina's mother said.

Last night, the 14-year old Girl Scout collapsed and was pronounced dead at Rady Children's Hospital.

Her autopsy was inconclusive and her toxicology report won't be done for weeks.

During Friday's vigil, Sabrina's father and older brother could barely contain their grief.

"And a lot of people touched her heart, which made her who she is. So ... Just keep her in your thoughts as a good person," Sabrina's father said.

Sabrina's memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 14 at the Gateway Community Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A memorial fund has been set up in Sabrina's honor.

In lieu of flowers, Sabrina's family is asking for people to make a financial contribution to any Mission Federal Credit Union acct# 91217377. Checks made out to Brian Keller or MFCU, memo: Sabrina Keller. If you need additional information regarding submitting contributions please contact Nastasya Balle, San Marcos Asst Branch Manager (800) 500-6328 x3462.
