SWAT standoff after man barricades himself inside Escondido motel room

Posted: Updated:

(ESCONDIDO) An convicted felon on parole for domestic violence barricaded himself inside an Escondido motel room Saturday evening, leading to a tense two-hour SWAT stand-off.

The suspect, identified by police as 34-year-old Cesar Sidon of Escondido, allegedly assaulted his pregnant wife inside their room at the Motel 6 on North Quince Street shortly before 6pm. The couple's one-year-old daughter was also with her at the time, according to authorities. She managed to escape to call 911, before being transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries to her face.

When authorities arrived at the motel, Sidon had barricaded himself inside his room with a handgun and sawed-off shotgun, refusing to come out. SWAT team members were called in, and a series of negotiations, conducted over the phone, were carried out.

After about two hours, SWAT members used a series of flash bangs, and then gas, to force the suspect outside. He then surrendered, and was taken into custody without incident.

Sidon will face domestic violence, weapons possessions and, possibly, drug charges, according to police.

Sidon's wife was in stable condition late Saturday evening. The couple's one-year-old daughter was not injured during the ordeal, according to police.
