SPRING VALLEY (CNS) - Sheriff's investigators sought the public's help Monday in identifying the person who fired a barrage of bullets at a car in Spring Valley, killing a man and wounding one of his friends.

Jonathan Lee Brown and two friends were fired upon while in a dark blue 1999 Honda Accord at the intersection of Worthington Street and Noeline Avenue about 10:20 p.m. April 21, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Brown, who was in the front passenger seat, was struck in the head and died in a hospital. His friend who was driving the Accord was also struck in the head but the bullet did not penetrate his skull, authorities said. A third person in the backseat was uninjured.

According to the Sheriff's Department, the trio was leaving the parking lot of Moonlight Liquor Store on South Meadowbrook Drive when the one of Brown's friends noticed a faded brown or tan mid-1990s Nissan Maxima was following them.

At the intersection of Worthington Street and Noeline Avenue, the Maxima was driven up next to the Accord, and one gunshot was heard coming from an unknown direction before about a half-dozen more shots were fired, authorities said.

Following the shooting, the driver of the Maxima sped away toward Elkelton Boulevard.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Anonymous emails and text messages can be sent to www.sdcrimestoppers.com.
