Paraglider plucked from mountain in Blosson Valley after crash

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A paraglider was seriously injured Monday after crashing into a hillside in Blossom Valley.

The accident happened Monday afternoon east of Lake Jennings near Blossom Valley Road and Quail Canyon.

Emergency crews from Lakeside Fire, San Diego Sheriff's Department, CalFire and Mercy Air responded to the crash site.

It took crews several minutes to reach the downed paraglider pilot to assess his situation. Ultimately, emergency crews on the ground decided to have San Diego Sheriff's Department Copter 12 airlift him off the side of the hill and deliver him to the Mercy Air unit at the nearby El Monte County Park.

The patient complained of lower back pain and pain along his left ribs and was flown to Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Neighbors say they often see upwards of fifteen paragliders in the air at a time at the popular glider launch spot.  They also say there are four or five crashes a year in the area.
