Valley Center teacher arrested after allegedly throwing wild drunken teen party

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A Valley Center teacher has been arrested after deputies say she hosted a high school graduation party at her house where more than a hundred teens were served alcohol this weekend.

"I don't see an explanation for having a hundred kids over that are three years away from legal drinking age, and supplying them with alcohol," said Sgt. Bob Bishop of the San Diego Sheriff's Dept.

According to authorities, the house of middle school teacher Nancy Hildebrand was trashed, as she threw a graduation party for her daughter. Teens were passed out, throwing up, and playing strip poker, deputies said.

Fifty-six-year-old Hildebrand was subsequently arrested in part for allegedly violating San Diego County's "social host ordinance," which forbids adults from hosting parties where minors are drinking alcohol.

"You could liken it to 'Animal House,'" said Bishop. "It looked like a frat house."

Following up on neighbors' noise complaints early Sunday morning, deputies arrived Hildebrand's home on Puma Trail to find a high school graduation party for her teen-aged daughter in full swing at about 12:30 am.

"Trash all over the place, empty beer cans, empty hard liquor bottles, Jagermeister bottles, vodka bottles," Bishop told News 8.

Deputies say approximately a hundred guests, all under-age, were in various stages of intoxication as they conducted a search.

"In one room there was a strip poker game going on," Bishop said. "Several young ladies down to their underwear playing cards, several boys taking photographs with their cell phone cameras."

While Hildebrand, who teaches at Valley Center Middle School, at first told deputies she'd been asleep in her bedroom and was unaware the teens were drinking, authorities said her teen-aged guests told a far different story.

"They said that she was in the middle of the party: she was drinking, she was handing out beer to the kids," Bishop said. "She was well aware, being a school teacher, the age of the kids ... 17, 18 years old."

Two of those guests, according to deputies, were especially impaired.

"The deputy found one young man, a 17-year-old from Escondido, laying on top of his girlfriend," Bishop said. "It appeared at the time that she was naked. It turned out she had a very, very skimpy bikini."

That couple later became combative with the deputy who had tried to separate them, authorities said.

"She eventually bit the deputy on the arm. The deputy had to grab her by the hair to pull her teeth out of his arm," Bishop added. "The 17-year-old boyfriend then jumped in, throwing punches at the deputy."

Those two teens were taken into custody, then released to their parents. They will face battery charges in juvenile court, according to authorities.

Hildebrand was also arrested and later released on bond. She faces misdemeanor charges of providing alcohol to minors and hosting a party where minors are served. She is set to be arraigned on July 23.

The superintendent of the Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District, for which Hildebrand works, said she is unable to comment on this incident.
