DEL MAR (CBS 8/CNS) - A fun day at the San Diego County Fair turned terrifying Tuesday when a girl and a ride operator were injured.

The accident happened just before 1 p.m. on a ride called "Techno Power". According to officials, the ride operator was helping each guest off the ride when for some reason the ride began to move again, injuring the operator and a teenage girl.

"We heard a loud bang and next thing we looked to our right and we saw the worker and a young little girl kind of bleeding badly. She was the last to get off and [the ride] somehow just kicked into gear. The ride restarted somehow and sent them flying... it was terrifying," witness Marty Oleksyk said.

Fair officials released no information on their injuries, but photos taken by another fair visitor and broadcast by News 8 showed a girl with apparent scrapes and bruises on her arms and legs and a young man lying on the ground with what appeared to be blood near his face.

Both the ride operator and the girl were flown to a hospital for treatment, according to officials. Their condition was not known.

This is the first incident involving ride safety in years, fair officials said.

State officials were expected to investigate the incident.

"It's all under investigation, just an operational error at this time until we can figure it out. The ride is closed until we can do our investigation. The state's going to come out and do their inspection and we'll see from there where we'll go," fair rides manager Tony Guadagno said.
