SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 34-year-old man was stabbed and robbed while walking in Mount Hope early Thursday, police said.

The man was walking in the 4200 block of Market Street shortly before 2:30 a.m. when another man walked up and issued a gang challenge, according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford.

Just then, a second assailant came up behind the victim and stabbed him in the back, Stafford said.

The assailants took the victim's wallet and tool bag before fleeing in a black or blue SUV, Stafford said, noting that both were described as being bald.

The victim, whose injury was not life-threatening, was taken to a local trauma center, according to the officer.
