SYCAMORE CANYON (CNS) - Emergency crews made quick work Friday of a grass fire that blackened several open acres on a hillside in a land preserve north of Santee.
The blaze in Sycamore Canyon Open Space Preserve began spreading for unknown reasons about 11:15 a.m., according to Heartland Fire & Rescue.
A sheriff's helicopter crew scooped up water from the nearby Santee Lakes and dropped it on the slow-moving flames while firefighters were en route to the remote site.
The personnel had the blaze under control by shortly before noon, a Heartland dispatcher said. The size of the burn area was estimated at two to three acres, she said.
No injuries were reported.
