LA MESA (CNS/CBS 8) - Police are investigating a robbery spree that might be linked to a 16-year-old getting shot in the head in La Mesa.

The Arizona boy, visiting San Diego with his family, suffered a graze wound to the head during a robbery in La Mesa early Monday, police said.

The robbery occurred in the 7300 block of El Cajon Boulevard, near the Chico Club about 1:50 a.m., according to La Mesa police.

The boy was riding his skateboard when the robbery occurred, police said, adding that the robber took a personal item and a small amount of cash from the teen.

"His property was demanded of him, he was shot and he sustained a non life-threatening wound to his head. He was transported to the hospital and is expected to be okay," Sgt. Angela Desarro of the La Mesa Police Department said.

Investigators were working with the San Diego Police Department to determine if the crime was related to a subsequent robbery spree in San Diego. Three pedestrians were robbed in Mid-City a short time after the shooting.

San Diego police said that between about 2 and 2:15 a.m., two gunman robbed at least three pedestrians in the Mid-City area. They were described as Hispanic males in their 20s with shaved heads, last seen driving a dark SUV with large chrome rims.
