SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - An 18-month old boy was hospitalized Monday after being discovered at the bottom of a swimming pool in Otay Mesa.

San Diego Police tells News 8 the toddler's twin 19-year-old uncles who were home from college were caring for the child, who was asleep in a baby seat, possibly a bouncy chair, inside a bedroom in the 600 block of Cochran Street. The teenagers say they fell asleep too, and when they woke up, they realized the child had disappeared. They noticed the sliding glass door to the backyard open, ran outside, and found the child in the home's backyard pool which is under repair and not being used by the family.

The two uncles pulled the boy out of the water and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

The little boy is in critical condition at Rady Children's Hospital, though the family tells News 8 the boy is breathing on his own without a ventilator. They tells News 8 he will undergo an MRI Tuesday to detect possible brain damage, and are holding out hope the boy will recover.
