High gas prices and unstable economy could mean less travel for Californians

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - High gas prices and an unstable economy will keep many Californians home this holiday weekend.

According to a new study released by AAA, about 4.6 million Californians will travel more than 50 miles from home over the three-day weekend.  That's 2.3 percent fewer than last year.

Air travel will increase by about 1.7 percent as about 541,000 Californians fly to their destinations.

Some 430,000 people will take trains, boats or buses, which is a drop of more than two and a half percent from last year.
