San Diego fugitive accused in bizarre love triangle murder plot

LANCASTER, Calif. (CBS 8) - A wanted fugitive from San Diego is behind bars, accused in an elaborate murder plot.

Lancaster police say she was planning to kill her lover's wife and young son, and she detailed how she planned to do it on audiotape.

The woman, who authorities say was plotting to kill her married lover's wife and three-year-old son, had apparently laid out her alleged plan for murder on a tape recording which her intended target's oldest son found.

"Step One said, 'Calm yourself down.' It was her talking to herself. According to the tape recorder, she was going to kill both of them and frame my mom," the son said.

According to the LA County Sheriff's department, 49-year-old Dierdre Allen -- a fugitive wanted out of San Diego -- was wearing gloves, a white construction overalls and a face mask when she knocked on the door of the Lancaster home where her boyfriend lived with his wife and child on Friday.

"The suspect thought she was home alone with her toddler son," a police spokesperson said. "She normally would have been, but luckily wasn't."

When a visiting relative answered the door, deputies say Allen forced her way inside and whipped out a fake handgun.

The victim's family members, who had stopped by to visit, wrestled Allen to the ground, holding her there until authorities arrived.

A white liquid substance, seen splattered on the ground near the door of the home, is believed to be poison that Allen had brought with her in a jar.

Authorities say that Allen's plan was to force her rival to drink it, then kill the three-year-old.

"We believe she was going to try to suffocate the toddler to make it look like a murder-suicide," police said.

Allen's rival was at home when Allen allegedly broke in to the house, but was not involved in the scuffle.

The white liquid substance found at the scene of the crime, which police believe was the intended murder weapon, has been sent to the crime lab for analysis.

Allen has been arrested and booked into the Lancaster sheriff's station for attempted murder, where she is currently being held without bail.

L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. says Allen is a parolee at large wanted in San Diego, but did not specify the charges she is facing locally.
