Search is on for hit and run driver who caused deadly Escondido crash

ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - A minivan erupted into a fireball with one person trapped inside and the search is on Monday for the hit and run driver who caused the deadly crash.

Police say they're now looking for the suspect who was driving and at least one passenger, spotted leaving the scene.

Doug Kolk spoke with the victim's family about the tragedy, and has more in this CrimeFighter's alert.

ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - Escondido Police and Fire Departments responded to a call Sunday morning of a hit and run traffic accident that left one dead.

It happened at about 2:15 a.m. at Washington Avenue and Elmwood Street.

Escondido police say a sedan crashed into a minivan, which immediately burst into flames.  The driver of the minivan died at the scene. 

The driver of the sedan and several passengers got out and fled on foot, leaving the car at the scene. One occupant was left behind and taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries.
