Double bombing kills dozens; injures dozens more

Posted: Updated:

BAGHDAD (AP) — An Iraqi military spokesman says the double bombing outside a government building in a town north of Baghdad was a "security breach."

Iraqi police and hospital officials say at least 35 people died and dozens were injured by a car bomb and roadside bomb. A spokesman for the military operations command that's in charge of security in Sunni-dominated Taji (TAH'-jee) says authorities are investigating the attack.

He puts the death toll at 27 with 50 injured, but conflicting reports on casualties are common immediately after big attack attacks in Iraq.

Police officials say insurgents first detonated a car bomb, and as people rushed to help the victims a roadside bomb went off.

Several ambulances were seen outside the sealed-off area waiting for permission from the Iraqi army to get to the wounded.
