Fourth of July partiers work off misdemeanors in "Instant Justice" program

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Nearly 60 people cleaned up the shoreline, streets and sidewalks in Pacific Beach Tuesday to erase tickets for minor infractions.

Gina Coburn of the City Attorney's Office said 56 people took part in the "Instant Justice" program.

In exchange for five hours of picking up trash from the busy Fourth of July weekend, the City Attorney's Office agreed not to file citations against them -- mostly for alcohol-related violations, such as having an open beer at the beach.

Coburn said the City Attorney's Office sees the program as a way for offenders to give back to the community in which they committed a crime.
