An Escondido man accused of causing a fiery hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of an 18-year-old man is scheduled to appear in a Vista court Wednesday to be arraigned.

VISTA (CNS) - An Escondido man accused of causing a fiery hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of an 18-year-old man is scheduled to appear in a Vista court Wednesday to be arraigned.

Juan Carlos Carrillo, 20, was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in connection with the crash that killed Miguel Angel Rojas of Escondido, said Escondido police Officer S. Walters.

Carrillo was being held in the Vista Detention Center on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing death or injury, and driving without a license, according to jail records. Bail was set at $50,000.

The crash happened about 2:15 a.m. Sunday, when Carrillo's eastbound 1995 Lexus ES300 collided with a Dodge Caravan at Washington Avenue and Elmwood Drive in Escondido, Walters said.

Carrillo and two passengers ran from the crash site, leaving the wrecked Lexus behind, Walters said.

The minivan was engulfed in flames immediately after the crash. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's office said Rojas died from smoke inhalation and burns. He was declared dead at the scene.
