SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego police need your help in finding the person who stole a large U.S. flag from outside a Scripps Ranch home.

Sheriff's Capt. Tim Curran says his wife saw someone stealing the wall-sized flag early Tuesday morning from their front yard. She then took off running after the thief.

"He got into his car and she pulled on the passenger side door, opened it up and she was yelling at him, 'Stop! Give us the flag back!' And he stepped on the gas and took off and she was thrown to the street pretty hard," Curran said.

Curran's wife suffered minor cuts and bruises. The flag was a gift from a retired Navy master chief who served on the USS Sterett, and the thief could face grand theft charges.

The suspect is described as a Middle Eastern man between the ages of 18 and 20 who was driving a late-model Dodge Durango SUV.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
