SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A registered sex offender who tackled and tried to rape a woman in Hillcrest and broke into the bedroom of another woman, then made nearly $800 worth of calls to a sex line, was sentenced Friday to 48 years to life in state prison.
David Thomas Blood -- who has prior child molestation convictions -- pleaded guilty in February to 16 counts, including assault with intent to commit rape. He was sentenced by Judge Charles Gill.
Blood, 51, was free on bail in connection with arrests for contracting without a license and making the unauthorized calls to the sex line when he tried to rape the woman in Hillcrest, prosecutors said.
The 32-year-old sexual assault victim told San Diego police that Blood approached her on a trail off the 1000 block of Myrtle Way about noon last Aug. 11 and engaged her in conversation. Moments later, he grabbed her, pulled her to the ground and straddled her.
As she struggled, her attacker threatened to "cut" her, police said. She began screaming, and he ran off but was arrested nearby shortly afterward.
Separately, Blood posed as a licensed contractor but failed to pay subcontractors. He also overcharged homeowners for work done in 2008 and 2009, according to prosecutors.
