Missing Escondido girl found safe

Posted: Updated:

ESCONDIDO (CNS) - An 11-year-old Escondido girl who turned up safe Tuesday morning following a nightlong police search was asleep in a friend's apartment the whole time, authorities said.

Jasmine Robinson was reported missing after she was last seen about 8:30 p.m. Monday walking away from the swimming pool area at Eagles Point Apartments at 1501 E. Grand Ave., where she lives with her mother, said Escondido police Lt. Chris Wynn. Her mother reported her missing about 11 p.m.

Witnesses told police that she walked away with a friend. According to Wynn, officers learned that the friend lives in one of a half-dozen apartment buildings that make up the roughly 100-unit complex.

Officers went to the friend's door during the night but got no answer, Wynn said.

Police also issued a reverse 911 call to residences in the area where Robinson was last seen, went door-to-door in the area, used police dogs to try to pick up her scent and turned to Twitter to spread word about the disappearance.

Just before 8 a.m., police announced via Twitter that Robinson was found safe. She said she fell asleep in her friend's apartment and awoke this morning to see herself on TV newscasts, then returned home on her own, according to Wynn.

Jasmine said she heard knocking in the middle of the night but did not answer because she did not know who was at the door, Wynn said.

Robinson's mother told reporters her daughter would be grounded for at least a week.

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO THE PREVIOUS STORY BELOW.

ESCONDIDO (CNS) - Escondido police Tuesday were searching for a missing 11-year-old girl.

Jasmine Robinson was last seen about 8:30 p.m. Monday walking away from the swimming pool area at Eagles Point Apartments at 1501 E. Grand Ave., where she lives, said Escondido police Lt. Chris Wynn.

She walked away with a friend, who does not live in the complex, police said.

It was uncharacteristic of her not to return home but there were no immediate signs that she was abducted, Wynn said. No details on Jasmine's friend were immediately released.

Police issued a reverse 911 call to residences in the area where Robinson was last seen, went door-to-door in the area and used police dogs to try to pick up her scent. Police also turned to Twitter to spread word about the disappearance.

Robinson is black, about 4 feet 5 and 100 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and Vans shoes.

Anyone with information about Robinson's whereabouts was asked to call Escondido police at (760) 839-4722.
