LA's Big Summer Sleepover: LACMA & The Redbury

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (CBS 8) - The blockbuster hit of the Big Summer Sleepover season can be found at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It's a quirky exhibit of monsters and mayhem that features some real Hollywood star power.

Step into the bowels of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and walk right into the belly of the beast and into the mirthful and slightly maniacal mind of director, producer, writer and artist Tim Burton. His current exhibit is a box office smash.

"We've been open for five weeks and we're almost 100,000 visitors. It's been fantastic," Barbara Pflaumer said.

The exhibit features over 700 pieces, many created just for the show.

"It's a real cross-section of Tim Burton's work since he started," Barbara said.

There are costumes from the classic Tim Burton film "Edward Scissorhands", as well as the actual scissor hands themselves, and you'll also find some of your favorite creatures from "A Nightmare Before Christmas" on display. And when it comes to sculptures, how can you beat brains with coiled feathers?

The Tim Burton exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art runs through Oct. 31.

"And then it's gone and it won't come back," Barbara said.

Speaking of comebacks, like many aging Hollywood actors, the corner of Hollywood and Vine is making a comeback, thanks in part to The Redbury. This 57-room boutique hotel is a little classic Hollywood and a whole lot of rock and roll. The fun and funky suites come complete with kitchen and a washer and dryer, but what makes The Redbury totally hip is that every room has a worker turntable and a wide array of classic albums.

The Redbury's signature restaurant is Cleo, offering an exotic Mediterranean small plates menu.

The total package makes The Redbury a sweet spot for a Big Summer Sleepover.
