The Dish with Anita: Pork dumplings

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - I made these one night when I literally woke up in the middle of the night craving pot stickers. This was as close as I could get at 2 a.m. and surprisingly they turned out great! Enjoy!

8 oz Farmer John breakfast sausage

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

2 green onions, very thinly sliced or chopped

6 to 8 waterchesnuts, chopped into small pieces

2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce

1 tsp sesame oil

Wonton wrappers

Steamer (if you have one)

2-quart saucepot

Place first six ingredients in a mixing bowl and gently mix with your fingers or a fork until everything is combined. Place wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Using your index finger dip it in the water and moisten the inside edge of the wrapper. Place 2 1/2 teaspoons of the pork filling in the center. Pull the sides of the wonton up over the filling.

If too full, reduce the filling amount. Gently pinch the sides up around the filling until it looks like a little pouch. Repeat until you have used up all of the filling.

Place just enough water in the saucepot to reach the bottom of the steamer. Spray the bottom of the steamer with non-stick cooking spray. Place the steamer in the bottom of the pot, bring water to a boil then reduce to a simmer. Place dumplings in steamer and cover with a lid and steam for 7 minutes or until dumplings are done. Remove from steamer and serve hot with your favorite Oriental dipping sauces.
