Street floods and buckles after water main break in Point Loma

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A water main broke Thursday, inundating an intersection in Point Loma's Fleetridge area and leaving four homes without service.

The break under the 1700 block of Evergreen Street, near Nimitz Boulevard, was reported about 12:45 p.m., according to the San Diego Water Department.

It took crews about an hour to get the flooding under control, SDWD spokesman Arian Collins said. Repair crews dug up of Nimitz Boulevard to get to the ruptured 6-inch-diameter concrete pipeline, Collins said.

No homes were flooded, Collins said.

The break left four nearby homes without water service into the early evening.

Repairs to the pipeline were expected to be complete, and a temporary roadway patch in place, by about 8 p.m., according to Collins.
