SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities released the name Friday of a 31-year-old man who barged into a stranger's East County home uninvited and assaulted a resident before fleeing into a nearby artificial lake, where he was found dead underwater six hours later.

Ebon Brandt Taylor of San Diego entered the house in the 9000 block of Camino Lago Vista in Spring Valley about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday and got into a scuffle with the homeowner, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

The victim was able to break away, run outside and a 911 call, sheriff's Sgt. David Pocklington said.

As deputies were en route, Taylor left the home, walked into Sweetwater Reservoir, a short distance to the southeast, and swam off.

Sheriff's personnel searched the area, then sent members of a dive team into the lake, where they found the burglary suspect's submerged body shortly before 9 p.m., Pocklington said.

A ruling on the cause of death was on hold pending completion of postmortem exams.

The victim of the assault and several other people who saw Taylor in the area around the same time described his behavior as "irrational"' and "bizarre," leading authorities to suspect he may have been under the influence of some type of drug, the sergeant said.
