SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A drunken driver was killed Saturday in a collision in Linda Vista that left four others hospitalized, police said.

The collision occurred just after 8:40 a.m., as the driver, who was in a white Mitsubishi, lost control as he tried to pass another vehicle while traveling south on Ulric Street near Fashion Hills Boulevard. He crossed the center divider and hit a Nissan Frontier that was carrying two adults and two children, ages 10 and 6, traveling in the opposite direction, according to San

Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

The Mitsubishi driver was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to a traumatic head injury. Police said he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The Frontier's occupants were hospitalized with moderate to major injuries, Cali said.

The collision on Ulrich Street near Fashion Hills Boulevard was reported about 8:40 a.m., San Diego Officer Frank Cali said.

The accident happened as the driver of a white Mitsubishi tried to pass a Nissan Frontier, he said. The Mitsubishi driver appeared to be the most seriously injured.

Ulrich Street was closed between Friars and Linda Vista roads to accommodate the investigation.
