SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two guided-missile destroyers are scheduled to return to their San Diego homeport Friday, the Navy announced Thursday.
The USS Stockdale was away for six months on its maiden deployment and served with strike groups led by the aircraft carriers Ronald Reagan, Carl Vinson and George Washington.
The ship made port calls to Cambodia, Guam, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand.
The USS Gridley spent most of its seven-month deployment with the Vinson, which returned to Coronado last month. Its sailors took part in community service projects in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
"We have a remarkable relationship and growing partnership with many countries throughout the Western Pacific and I'm pleased that our sailors had the opportunity to experience rich cultures while acting as ambassadors for the United States," said Cmdr. Benjamin Allbritton, the Gridley's commanding officer.
About 50 family members were taking part on a "Tiger Cruise" from Honolulu aboard the Gridley.
