Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show coming this fall

Anderson Cooper stopped by our studio on Wednesday to talk about the launch of his nationally syndicated show airing on CBS 8 weekdays at 4 p.m. starting in September.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Anderson Cooper stopped by our studio on Wednesday to talk about the launch of his nationally syndicated show airing on CBS 8 weekdays at 4 p.m. starting in September. If you were a fan of "Oprah", you're going to love "Anderson".

He's already the leading news anchor at CNN, and now Anderson Cooper is set to take daytime television by storm.

"The daytime show is not going to be a news program. It's a show geared for women. It's a show to help people in their own lives to inform them and entertain them," Cooper said.

I had a chance to talk with Anderson during his swing through San Diego about the new show, which he describes as a cross between "Oprah" and "The Phil Donahue Show".

"We really have a broad spectrum of stories from big celebrities and I've interviewed Lady Gaga and Eminem, to provocative social issues, to fun pop culture stuff," he said.

A New York native, Anderson started his news career 20 years ago. He is a graduate of Yale University and the son of fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt.

"I never really thought of it until my mom started the first line of designer jeans in the 1970s and I guess I started seeing her name on people's butts. I thought, that's unusual," Cooper said.

And he's looking forward to redefining daytime talk.

"I like that variety. I like the mix of serious and silly, and it's much more akin to my personality," he said.
